DOG WALKING

We differ from many dog-walking companies, because we don't have a van thereby focusing on dogs which may not enjoy travelling in a vehicle with other dogs. All dogs are walked by both Steven & Tomasz, and all dogs are collected on foot. We tend to concentrate more on the Hanover, Roundhill and Preston Park areas of Brighton, as we live close to them.
We walk up at the Racecourse and Sheepcote Valley, as well as local parks depending on the needs of each dog.

We recognise dog walking is a big responsibility, so below is a comprehensive list of important points that ensure everything goes well and the dogs enjoy their walk, giving you peace of mind.

We will always meet you and your dog in your own home prior to any dog walking. We will run through a series of questions about your dog, so we understand their nature, needs and behaviour as much as possible, and are equipped to walk them safely. We walk them to your requirements, and the length of walk, which will have been thoroughly discussed at this initial meeting.

It’s important for the dog to adjust to us at its own pace. At first they may act differently with us, than they do with you. We have spent time with some dogs in their own home each day to become acquainted before any walks have taken place. The owners are walso welcome to join us on the first walks to ensure a smooth transition, though most dogs will be fine.

We never let a dog off the lead - without your written permission, and we will only do so if we are sure they are safe, and there is no danger of running into a road or traffic.

We keep an electronic document of your dog’s details on file and email you a copy.  This will also include the hourly rate and your dogs walk schedule.

We are trained in doggie first aid, and take refresher courses every three years, to ensure we are up-to-date with latest techniques. We always take an additional emergency contact number should we need to contact you in an emergency. We always take a note of your own vets number too.

We require 24 hours to cancel an agreed walk. We don’t require any notice to book a walk and will always walk your dogs, even at the last minute, if we have space and are free.

If we have to cancel a walk, we will let you know as soon as possible. As there are two walkers, the likelihood of us needing to cancel a walk is very rare.

We alter the walks as much as possible, to keep them interesting for the dogs.

We are fully insured, (which includes the care, custody and control of animals, plus animals in transit, and the loss or theft of keys). We also have public liability and professional indemnity extension. Our full insurance policy is available upon request.

Keys are never labelled with your address.

It’s important that any dogs we walk together all get on well. We are unable to walk aggressive, or badly-behaved dogs which disrupt the walks.

The maximum number of dogs we walk at any one time is four per person, though in reality it is usually three. When possible, Steven & Tomasz will walk the dogs together, further safeguarding the dogs safety and security.

Occasionally we may have work experience students or other helpers, who will walk the dogs with us. We will always let you know if this is the case. Anyone who walks the dogs with us is fully insured by Brighton Pet Care, and they are never left alone with the dogs. They are always supervised by Steven & Tomasz.

All dogs we walk must be fully vaccinated, and microchipped.

We walk dogs in all weather conditions. When it is very hot, it may be necessary to alter walks, and in excessive heat, only allow dogs in gardens, with plenty of shade and water. In cold or wet weather, we use dogs' coats if provided, and we never leave a wet dog after its walk - without towelling it off first.

If your dog needs special care, such as recovery from an operation or illness, we will alter the length or route of a walk, following a full discussion with the owner about its care. We will do our best to accommodate any changes to the routine.

We always take a first-aid kit, water and treats on walks with us. We always check with you at the initial meeting, whether your dog is allowed treats and if so, what type of treats they can have.

We require your dog to wear a collar with an ID tag attached at all times. We cannot walk any dog without an ID tag. The dog must wear a collar even if it also has a harness.
All harnesses and collars must be 100% secure.

We always obtain your permission before we take any photographs of your dog and share them on social media or our own website. If we take photographs within your own home, we are careful not to share anything of its interior or your location.

And last, but not least, we always pick up any poo, regardless of where - be it an urban or countryside location.

We look forward to meeting your canine friends soon
